Not only that, but I want to explain to you that now is the time. First, a quick story.

Several years ago Jen and I had the opportunity to have dinner with friends. They run a very successful orthodontic office in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He had returned recently from a conference about marketing. At least one of the presentations was all about video. “If you are not using video, then start now. Video! Video!! Video!!!” Knowing that we produce videos, our friends called and we agreed to discuss video options over dinner. We soon began production.

In September 2013, the finished videos were uploaded to his YouTube channel. 27 videos in all. Before that his channel had fewer than one hundred views with two videos and zero subscribers. As of the writing of this post, his channel now has a whole library of videos with over 339,000 views and 750 subscribers. And thousands of more views are occuring every month on auto-pilot. Not to mention ranking #1 on YouTube with several of the videos.

Why do I share all of this? One, because people – your customers – are watching videos on sites like YouTube. And two, your business benefits from using videos in marketing. If my short story does not peak your interest in investing in video, here are the stats will help.

  1. When researching a business online 90% of buyers say that a video helped in their decision making process.
    Holy cow! That means for every 10 customers looking to purchase from a company like yours, nine of them were influenced by a video. Not a radio ad. Not a flyer. Not even a blog post. It was video. Do you have a video or videos in your sales funnel and marketing channels? A video can help 9 out of 10 buyers purchase from you.
  2. Viewers retain 95% of a message when they watch it in a video compared to 10% when reading it in text.
    Let’s face it, we are bombarded by messages. These messages come in many forms on multiple channels. If that message is presented through video, your customers will retain more of it. That’s important when considering a top-of-mind awareness approach to marketing.
  3. 46% of users take action after viewing a video.
    No, way! But it’s true. After watching a video, almost half of customers are more likely to engage with your brand another way. Are you getting the same from other marketing tactics? Probably not.
  4. 59% of executives agree that if both text and video are available on the same topic they are more likely to choose video.
    OK, now this one is interesting. You mean to tell me that over half of all executives, decision makers, and influencers will watch videos instead of read a document? Yup. If you are B2B company, are you missing out on a huge opportunity to educate and persuade executives with whom you are trying to work with? And if you are a B2C company, you have to deal with executives, too. Moms, dads, wives, husbands, etc.

    Don’t miss out on potential revenue. Grow a new traffic source by uploading videos to a branded YouTube channel. YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world, you know.
  2. The average user spends 88% more time on a website that has video.
    It is 2018, and I am shocked more websites do not have videos on them. One way search engines determine if your site is worth ranking is how long visitors stay on it. What is your bounce rate? What is your time-on-site? Will a video help on those pages struggling? The short answer is yes. How much more likely are you to get a sale when a customer is staying on your website 88% longer than usual? The odds go up tremendously.
  3. Video on a landing page with a call-to-action can increase conversions by 80% or more.
    When you use a video on a landing page with a lead generation form, you engage with the visitor. This increases the likelihood that page will generate a lead. Don’t miss out on gaining a new customer. Add videos to your landing pages today.

A client recently told me, “I need to get off the treadmill of marketing the old fashioned way. I need to jump online. I need to use video.” He is right. These stats that I shared are not reversing. They will only improve. Video is a part of our lives. Video is here to stay. And customers are actively watching videos produced by the companies they do business with. Is your company one of them?

In 4-5 years what will you look back and see. Will you see a lonely YouTube channel with a single video? Or will you have an active channel with hundreds of thousands of views from a library of relevant and valuable videos? Now is the time.
